THE ASTROLOGY OF Día de los Muertos

THE ASTROLOGY OF Día de los Muertos

TODAY ON MYSTICAL MONDAY

A look at the astrology for the week of
October 30 - November 5, 2017

All Souls Day, Día de Muertos, Day of the Dead, Samhain, Ilgės…these are some of the celebrations around the world marking this week of the thinning of the veil between this world of appearances and the other world of the unseen.Such remembrances of the ancestors serve as a reminder of the impermanence of our lives and circumstances, an awareness which is highlighted by the Sun’s annual trip through Scorpio (Oct. 22 - Nov. 21). At its best, Scorpio gestures to the rebirth and regeneration gained from surrendering to the ultimate mystery of endings joined with beginnings.

In a similar vein, harmony-seeking Venus in Libra is finishing up her square to transformative Pluto in Capricorn, which may have churned up fears, anxieties and intense feelings around intimate relationships and social scenes, or perhaps you’ve felt a little prickly around matters involving exchange of time, money or energy. Venus-Pluto world transits often bring an uncomfortable couple of days, which can help us identify our needs for harmony and rapport, and whatever is getting in the way of that. We can be less than skillful in expressing those needs under the influence of Venus-Pluto, and it’s a good idea to let yourself simmer in your own feelings for those few days rather than risk scalding others with unprocessed emotions. Remember that your feelings tell you way more about yourself than about others, and genuine curiosity about others’ experience and intentions will support the harmony and equality that Venus in Libra desires. In other words, allow for a real conversation - and the true vulnerability that requires - and let yourself encounter the mysterious other-ness of those in your life when you reach out to mend, strengthen or alter bonds.

How might we fold the previous week’s provocations and evocations into this week? Gentle forms of reverie, such as noticing what images or daydreams are flickering in your peripheral vision, and body love, such as a visit to a sauna or quiet time with nature, may come in handy on Monday and Tuesday of this week. By softening any rawness and allowing your Soul to whisper its needs around healthy relationships, you stand a good chance at cooperating with the power of the week’s Full Moon in TaurusHowever, beware of sliding into fantasy escapism (whether it’s a feel-bad or feel-good variety), and see if you can allow both the desirable and the undesirable to be present at once. Try staying with the body’s experience, from the perspective of the one of you who can feel everything and allow it all to move through, and the one of you who can lovingly hold each part with care and compassion. Clarity about relating and reciprocity is more likely to emerge from this place of wholeness.

It’s a good idea to infuse this Taurus Full Moon (Nov. 4, 2017 at 1:24am US/Eastern) with some grounding energy. While Taurus is like the immovable Earth herself, the Full Moon is typically a high energy and sometimes chaotic force in the anima mundi (just ask any hospital emergency room worker). On this Full Moon, relational Venus will be exactly opposing electrifying Uranus while also in exact sextile to stabilizing Saturn, bringing the longer-term world transit of Saturn trine Uranus (Dec. 2016 to mid-Nov. 2017) into the conversation. For some, this may signal a pivotal moment of transition in your intimate, social or economic sphere, which has been building over the past year.
For others, it could be a sudden realization that what you thought was building will not quite yet come to pass, testing your resolve and commitment to your aspirations. In keeping with the ritual observances around the world this week, try calling on your healthy, healed and whole ancestors for support and guidance, to help honor any current transition in this season of your life.
