A RARE ARIES Supermoon Rising: Your October Cosmic Forecast

A RARE ARIES Supermoon Rising: Your October Cosmic Forecast

As a new month begins, the Moon grows large, forming an opposition to the Sun in Libra on October 6 and energizing the anima mundi (soul of the world) from the pioneering sign of Aries.

This month’s lunation marks the first of this year’s three supermoons, so-called because the Moon is at perigee, or its closest point in its orbit, resulting in a slightly larger and much brighter appearance. Appropriately, this Full Moon makes a dynamic aspect to the blessings of Jupiter, which tends to enlarge whatever it touches.

The thought of having more, bigger, or extra feelings may sound exhausting to those who could use a break after all the action of the eclipses last month. Fortunately, listening to our bodily needs can help us take advantage of opportunities rather than trying to be everywhere at once.

We may be naturally contemplating our limits, both real and imagined, as the Sun brings the year-long transit of Jupiter square Chiron (August 2025 - August 2026) into our awareness. Chiron contains the challenge and gift of being both a rational and an instinctual animal, and with Jupiter’s influence here, we may be in search of the roots of our hope, faith, and optimism. The desire to heal the pain of our world may become prominent for many, and it’s good to remember that our biggest pitfall is neglecting to care for our needs in the process.

As advocacy and a spirit of investigation weave their way through October—with champion Mars and communicative Mercury moving together through the deep and passionate sign of Scorpio—we can expect to hear what people are really thinking and without much of a filter by the time we reach mid-month. We might even be surprised by our own impulse to confront others or to rebalance relationships in our lives. This comes as new apparitions appear in the night sky, including the odd interstellar object 3i/ATLAS and at least six other comets suddenly incoming over the next few months. Chinese astrology of yore viewed the appearance of comets as a sign of regime change, indicating that old rulers were out of favor and fresh leadership was needed. We may want to watch for such indications within our own lives.

After an intense month involving consequential eclipses for so many of us, the fiery hot Full Moon in Aries of October 6 at 8:47 pm US/Pacific suggests a quality of accelerating events, though not necessarily all difficult. This lunation’s dynamic T-square aspect, combined with the expansive nature of Jupiter, means we may need to act quickly on opportunities, but be cautious of skipping steps along the way. Part of the hustle is ensuring that all the details are covered and in the correct order, as well as identifying anything that feels off. Jupiter is trying to grant us some blessings and gifts, but its awkward square aspect means we may feel overwhelmed, pulled in too many directions, or maybe we’re thinking too short-term.

Our mental process, in particular, may want to run away with us under this lunation. It could be helpful to pause and take in a longer-term view. Though the idea of hustling sounds like rushing from task to task, we may actually need to build in more restorative time. Especially if September’s eclipses have left our body and mind a bit frazzled, hustling may translate to giving ourselves some extra time snoozing in bed.

Sun Opposite Chiron T-Square Jupiter

The Sun will go on to make a potent T-square aspect with Jupiter square Chiron, creating exact aspects on October 16 and 17, and emphasizing our attachment to stability. This influence could surface fears about proceeding with existing plans or adjusting them to fit the circumstances better. Old and lingering concerns of inadequacy cloud our vision, and we feel unsure of our abilities. Leaning into strong partnerships and confiding in true friends who will give us the unvarnished truth can help us to live our wisdom and express ourselves with more confidence. Don’t forget all the other-than-human friends who can provide us with an accurate read. Reflecting with the plants, animals, trees, and landscapes that we have befriended can undoubtedly help clarify what we are truly capable of and what may actually need adjustment.

Jupiter Square Chiron

The Sun will illuminate the opening square in a roughly year-long dance between the religiosity of Jupiter and the instinctual-rational division within Chiron, marking the first of three exact square aspects on October 23. Some of us may find ourselves digging deep to uncover the roots of our faith and hope, going to extremes in an attempt to ward off despair or to try to heal the fractures in our world. Particularly with Pluto’s wild intensities pulled into this picture, especially in the final square between Jupiter and Chiron in July 2026, we will need to give as much careful attention to our own wounding as we do to the healing of our world. Messianic zeal is already a potential within the collective astrological picture, and this Chironic archetypal wave in that great ocean can easily feed into avoiding our own suffering by trying to fix others.

For those who are teachers or healers—whether professionally or incidentally—Jupiter in Cancer (June 2025 - June 2026) carries a quality of making a gift of the past. With the archetypal healer Chiron’s involvement in this transit of Jupiter, teachers and healers may revisit or reframe past challenges related to their calling. Whether that involves learning from past experiences of failure or perhaps taking another step of differentiation from our own teachers, we are crossing a threshold of claiming our own hard-won wisdom. Such thresholds are meant to be scary, to be guarded by the responsibility that accompanies our liberty. While this calls for sobriety and discipline, it may be that a sense of humor is the deciding factor in our readiness.

Mercury Square Pluto
Mercury Conjunct Mars
Mercury & Mars in Scorpio

In the near term, though, a lot of us will be focusing our aim on the depths, with passionate Mars in the intuitive yet secretive sign of Scorpio from September 22 to November 4. Particularly when the mind of Mercury joins Mars in Scorpio from October 6 through October 29, we could find the detective or sleuth within us or around us awakened. Few will be satisfied with preliminary reporting and will quest further, perhaps verging into confrontational moods in mid-October, when Mercury conjoins Mars (exact October 19). Mercury-Mars is rapid-fire speech, cutting words, incisive wit, or a stressed, racing mind. Many will be in the mood to say what they really think, which may not be terribly diplomatic.

Whether someone is coming to us demanding answers, or we feel compelled to unearth evidence for our suspicions, there is the larger matter of taking responsibility for what we find. The bias is towards acting quickly on new information, but it may be in our best interest to think strategically rather than being ruled by emotional reactivity. There are more viable options for responding than they initially appear.

Venus in Libra
Venus Opposite Saturn-Neptune
Venus Trine Uranus & Pluto

After all, Venus’s ability to build bridges is magnified by her traverse of Libra (October 13 - November 6), where the arts of grace, diplomacy, and shared understanding flourish. That said, Venus’s fair-mindedness is very challenged at the start as she moves through the cosmic receiver dish of Uranus-Saturn-Neptune-Pluto (exact October 11 - 14). So far, Mars, Mercury, and the Sun have all activated that long-term alignment from the sign of Libra in August and September, and it has correlated with quite a bit of turbulence in the collective.

Although what we can see and know about is never the full extent of what is happening when it comes to the transpersonal power of the three outer planets, we should still be prepared for some challenging interpersonal dynamics in mid-October when Venus takes her turn. A hue and cry for justice, fair exchange and reciprocity, acknowledgement of contributions, and a genuine adjustment in our social or romantic landscape are all potential scenarios.

Pluto Stations Direct

Although it is wise to avoid succumbing to emotional reactivity, Pluto appears to stand still or station, returning to direct motion on October 13. Pluto stationing means the irresistible cosmic composter is moving very slowly throughout October, amplifying its effects. It helps to be mindful of being pulled into extremes of any kind, as this is a strong temptation with Pluto. Pluto’s instinctual nature doesn’t tend to allow for much choice or reflection, and sometimes that is the correct move, the life-saving move. But if our feet aren’t firmly on the ground, and we’re caught in a dissociated or overly detached state, it’s possible that powers could possess us that we do not understand.

One way to honor Pluto’s magnified influence and offer it a generative expression is to consciously connect with the world of plants, animals, and minerals, which all fall in the province of Pluto’s wild nature. We might dance with the poetry of plants whose tendrils extend out through hundreds of millions of years of Earth’s dreaming. We might breathe with the trees whose lives nourish our own, and touch the stones that make up Earth’s bones. We might see our kinship with these others and remember something of our own human poetry of delight, wonder, and discovery.
