The main event of this week is Uranus’ entry into the sign of Taurus on May 15, 2018 at 10:16am US/Eastern—the last time Uranus was in the earthy, sensual sign of Taurus was 1942! Uranus is a planet of surprises, shocks, the unexpected and the unusual. It has an explosive quality and tends to challenge or overturn ideas about boundaries, limits, standards and rules, and symbolizes things like electricity, leaps in scientific progress and revolution. Uranus is seen in declaring oneself to be The New Law, better and wiser than all previous laws and ignoring the suffering involved in establishing that bold new vision. In the sign of Taurus, we could expect the collision of ethics and the scientific manipulation of the natural world (genetic engineering, developments in VR, artificial intelligence), different ways of valuing the real (and confusion about what “real” even means, compared to belief or delusion) and recklessness with the actual limits of human ingenuity.
The fact that the red planet Mars, who is known for his rashness and willfulness, will be exactly squaring Uranus at this time (exact May 15) suggests we are all in for some revolutionary surprises over these next eight years of Uranus in Taurus. Mars brings a load of energy to the other planets it touches, and the square aspect indicates this energy may be squirting out through the fingers of closed fists that are trying to control situations which are anything but under control. Sudden changes in direction, an extreme felt urgency to make changes, fighting for change, a sense of emergency and the potential for accidents are all themes of Mars square Uranus. This will be something to watch for in the collective (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, warfare or insurrection, etc) and depending on where this aspect falls in your chart, you may be experiencing rapid or even uncontrolled change in some area of your personal life as well.
The Taurus New Moon of May 15, 2018 at 6:47am US/Eastern features the Uranus square Mars aspect prominently, though they are both still in the last degree of the signs of Aries (Uranus) and Capricorn (Mars). Taurus is extremely slow to change, and this particular New Moon offers us a chance to reflect on those aspects of our lives which—whether we like it or not—are experiencing change and how we might need to adjust. Even amidst a sense of urgency, how can you be strategic? Are you able to take some time to slow down and connect with whatever comforts you? Jupiter’s opposition to this New Moon can bring a kind of grace or ease to your considerations and it could be helpful to call upon others for support. There may be a struggle between self-reliance and feelings of isolation, and the need to ask for others’ assistance—whether in receiving different perspectives or an empathetic ear, or getting help to complete some tasks.
Mars’ entry into Aquarius on May 15 will be prolonged by his retrograde through that sign, and instead of spending his usual month and a half, he will be there for most of the next six months. Revisiting your motivations, desires and previous actions and wondering if you’re on the right track are key themes that may be foreshadowed in this period before Mars stations retrograde on June 26, 2018. Use this time now to notice what is bubbling up and reflect on ways you might best manage any anxiety and calm your nervous system to ease changes in wherever possible. Even if you are enthusiastic about what’s on the horizon, it’s a good idea to stay more centered and grounded.
Venus enters the sign of Cancer on May 19, moving to a more bodily and instinctual experience of love and connection, in contrast to her more cerebral and chatty trip through Gemini. This symbol brings to mind cuddling into comfort, watching nostalgic films or looking through family history, and tapping into our more emotional and often unconscious regard of our lovers, business partners and friends. The Sun will swing into the sign of Gemini on May 20, which could signal in uptick in networking, a greater desire to express all the facets of oneself and may make it a little harder to connect those Venus in Cancer feelings about friends and partners of all kinds with your thoughts about them. Where there is contradiction, it is a worthy exploration for you may be on the verge of recognizing or breaking out of serious limitations which can complicate the changes which want to happen now.
