Cosmic impressions as we enter the new year.

A look at the astrology of the week of January 2, 2018 - January 9, 2018

The first week of the new year holds great expectations for us. What if you took a moment to peer into the heart of your desire, to glimpse what the future may offer to you? Would you find that you have you gone to sleep on your dreams? Have you forgotten the larger Dream of the Earth that wants to express itself through you? If so, your hopes and expectations for the future may want to jar you awake as Uranus appears to stand still in the sky on Jan. 2, returning to direct motion after five months of retracing the final steps of its journey through the sign of Aries. For those who feel like they’re in the right groove with deeper longings and the mysterious call of Soul, Uranus’ change of motion may signal an increase in momentum towards expressing those deeper dimensions of being. Where you had been gathering your wings, now comes an urgency to take flight or to seek more distant horizons. The themes of home, children and family are woven into this direct station of Uranus, and whether that refers to how you are nurturing those structures and relationships in the present, or relates to releasing something from your past that is preventing your forward momentum or individual evolution, it’s time to be an active participant in the process. The Earth can’t wait for you to awaken more of your true nature, to come out and play yourself on the grand stage of Life!

Late in the week we’ll get an energy boost for reuniting with or affirming our role in the larger Dream of the Earth, with Mars making an exact conjunction to Jupiter in Scorpio, just as Mercury makes a harmonious trine to Uranus on Jan. 6. The truth will set you free, but beware of getting entangled in debates about versions of the truth, and who has The Right Version of Events. Mercury trine Uranus can indicate cleverness, but the point isn’t who sounds the best or looks the best—mental gymnastics will take you away from the wisdom you need to bring to bear on your situation. Mars conjoining Jupiter in Scorpio is looking for truth in action, and acting on what is best for you and thus for the whole—not controlling other people (or their perspectives) in an attempt to establish security or dominance. There could be a fair amount of manipulation in the air, and it is questionable whether participating in that will serve an ultimate goal of being on a path that is truly and authentically yours.

Because moving into early next week, we have an exact triple conjunction of the Sun, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn on Jan. 9. We could spin our wheels creating fruitless melodrama within ourselves—perhaps by fighting the impulse to step more fully into our Soul’s sometimes intimidating longings—or with others, perhaps by creating obstacles to our happiness, fulfillment and true security. Who or what is holding you back from living out your true and precious life? Being clear about this will empower you to be vulnerable—to reveal your needs—in generative ways, and to discern where and how you should protect yourself. The philosopher and civil rights leader Howard Thurman’s exhortation comes to mind: “Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

A time to ENVISION and LOVE

Plant Collagen Rose
Hot Chocolate

recipe + photography by Dillon Tisdel

{ Serves 1 }

1 1/4 cup plant milk, I used homemade almond
2 teaspoons cacao powder
1 tablespoon sucanat or coconut sugar
2 teaspoons ghee or coconut oil
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cardamom
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1/8 teaspoon rose water
1/2-1 teaspoon Collagen Powder
pinch himalayan salt

Warm all ingredients in a small saucepan, whisking frequently. If using homemade nut milk, do not allow it to get too hot or to boil, or the flavor will change undesirably. When the hot chocolate is warm, you can serve as is or blend until frothy for a latte vibe.
