There's something quietly satisfying about making your own lip care from scratch: knowing exactly what's in it, where it came from, and that every ingredient was chosen with intention. This rose lip balm is exactly that: a small, beautiful ritual you can complete in 30 minutes and wear every day after.
Creamy shea butter and golden Jojoba Oil melt together into a silky base that locks in moisture without feeling heavy. A spoonful of Rose powder adds a subtle blush of color and a soft floral note, and a few drops of Rose Otto or Lavender Kashmir essential oil lifts the whole formula into something that genuinely feels luxurious.
The result glides on like a petal and leaves lips hydrated, soothed, and lightly scented. Melt, mix, pour, and bloom.
Why These Ingredients Work
Jojoba Oil: Technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba is one of the most skin-compatible plant-based emollients available. It closely mimics the skin's natural sebum, meaning it absorbs beautifully without clogging pores, making it an ideal carrier for lip care. Our Jojoba Oil is organic, cold-pressed, and unrefined.
Shea Butter: A deeply nourishing fat from the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), traditionally used across West Africa for skin and hair. Rich in fatty acids and known for its softening, soothing properties, especially on dry, chapped lips.
Rose Powder: Beyond its beautiful color and fragrance, rose has a long history in botanical beauty traditions as a skin-supportive botanical. Our Rose Powder is made from whole dried Rosa damascena petals: pure, aromatic, and perfect for a ritual lip balm.
Beeswax: The structural backbone of any solid balm, it creates the firm-yet-gliding texture and forms a light protective barrier on the lip surface.
RECIPE
Prep time: 30 minutes (includes cooling)
Recipe by: Teresa @life.curating
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp organic white beeswax pellets
- 7 Tbsp Jojoba Oil
- 3 Tbsp (40g) organic unrefined shea butter
- 1-2 tsp Rose powder
- A few drops of Rose Otto or Lavender Kashmir essential oil
You'll also need: A double boiler or heat-safe bowl + small saucepan, a stirring utensil, and clean lip balm tins or small jars for pouring.
Instructions:
- Set up a double boiler: Place a heat-safe bowl or small jar over a pot with a couple inches of simmering (not boiling) water.
- Add the beeswax, shea butter, and Jojoba Oil to the bowl. Stir occasionally until everything is fully melted and combined.
- Remove from heat. Stir in the Rose powder until evenly distributed. Then add your essential oils of choice.
- Pour immediately into clean, dry lip balm tins, tubes, or small jars. (Work quickly as it starts to set.)
- Let it cool and harden at room temperature (or pop in the fridge for faster setting). Avoid moving the containers until fully solid to prevent cracking.
Customize Your Balm
Tint it deeper: Add an extra ½ tsp of Rose Powder, or stir in a small amount of cosmetic-grade beetroot powder for a richer rose-pink hue.
Change the scent: Try a few drops of Frankincense Essential Oil for a warmer, more grounding balm, or leave the essential oils out entirely for a fragrance-free version.
Give it as a gift: Pour into small decorative tins or glass pots, tie with a ribbon, and add a handwritten ingredient label. This recipe makes enough for 4–6 tins — ideal for gifting.
