I attended grammar school in a diverse, working-class, inner-city neighborhood with a strong Irish Catholic constituency. On “May Day,” a “May Pole” was erected in our concrete playground where we children were instructed to circumambulate in a precise gender-staggered arrangement. Dance we did, each one attached by a long, colorful ribbon affixed to the top of the May Pole, much to the delight of our parents (oblivious to this being an obvious reenactment of an ancient fertility rite customary to many parts of the British Isles).
Celtic legends abound of monolithic standing stones that sing, talk, walk, spin, or drink on May Day. Some towns have even been known to turn or rotate specific stones yearly upon this precise date. Were they relieving a mysterious and forgotten Earth species of current pressure?
May Day was initially associated with mid-Spring Day, the 15th and central day of the sign Taurus, also known in Celtic lands as “Beltane.” Traditionally, the fertile Earth Element achieves apex concentration at this time. Those born near this date often evince a significantly attractive magnetism. Dormant earth currents awaken now, beckoning all to enjoy the sensuousness of spring. Taurus time provides its natives stamina, fertility, good appetite, pleasure, beauty, longevity, and nourishment. However, there is another side…

What comes in must go out! Taurus, while strong on intake, can hold on.
Taurus governs eating. Astrologically, this sign rules the mouth, throat, palate, ears, salivary glands, lower jaw, neck, vocal cords, trapezius muscle, cervical vertebrae, carotid artery, jugular vein, and strongly influences the teeth, tongue, hearing, thyroid, and thymus gland.
This sign also influences the heart through the carotid sinus. Taurus ‘reflexes’ with its opposite sign, Scorpio, ruler of the colon, genitals, excretory system, and more. Colon and generative health (Scorpio) reflect the voice (Taurus). The last week of April and the first three weeks of May are the prime times to nourish all regions under Taurus’ auspices.

This is a healthy season whose natives are notoriously long-lived! Of all seasons, this is prime time to nourish the bones and vital force deeply! Anima Mundi’s organic oat straw—available in bulk or many of their beloved house tea formulas—is a valuable mineral-rich herb for this time.
Taurus is also our most retentive sign, giving rise to a host of potential health issues that build slowly over time, often accrued through rich eating.
Avoiding cholesterol-choked arteries, toxic colon, excess mucus in the ear-nose-throat, throat infection, weight gain, diabetes, heavy metals, overweight, thyroid issues, sluggish liver, swelling, cysts, edema, impactions, obstructions, appendicitis, and heart problems is imperative. Due to concurrent planetary influences, the 2025 Taurus season appears more ‘retentive’ than usual.
For some, antidoting Taurus’ retentive properties is more essential than nourishment!
It can be challenging to keep those lymphatics and excretive forces moving at this time. The decision to nourish or cleanse depends on your physician’s advice and personal body state.

Earthy Taurus benefits from stimulating herbs and delicious spices, too! And beauty? There is no better season to beautify and replenish your skin and hair. Or, to deeply nourish a frail libido.
