Join us at the Brooklyn Apothecary beginning on Thursday October 29th at 7pm for a 4-part Herbalism series with Herbalist Natalie Galarza.

This herbalism series is for the beginner and advanced student alike.
We’ll focus on 4 body systems that can begin to feel out of balance with the cooling
weather: The digestive, Immune, Nervous and Reproductive systems. Come make medicine and dip into more advanced and clinical understandings of traditional herbalism
such as: tissue states, tongue indications and formulating. Get confidant with the basics by making an herbal tea blend and build up to more advanced remedies including: oxymels and tinctures.

Class Includes:

  • Materials for medicine making
  • Sample tea for each body system
  • Printed monographs & detailed study materials for each body system
  • 15% off Anima Mundi products to shop in store, after each class.

Bring: a notebook, questions and curiosity!

Space is limited. Please purchase your tickets in advance. Refunds accepted up to 24 hours before the event start time, unless cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Class curriculum-

Gut Health
“You aren’t what you eat, you are what you digest” – Ayurvedic proverb
“The gut is the second brain” - Dr. Michael Gershon
Our digestive systems process more than just food; they also digest our daily thoughts and emotions. When one is feeling an imbalance in this area, it is also
helpful to look at the nervous system to address gut-brain connections. In this class, we’ll also assess tissue states in the gut such as a hot+dry or a cold+stagnant condition. We’ll learn how to keep the digestive fire strong, and we’ll blend an herbal tea unique to your constitution.

Immune System
The immune system is the main system we notice to go out of balance with the
cooling weather. Learn traditional practices, herbs and ways of eating during the fall and winter seasons to keep our immune system up. Learn the slow and sustainable rituals that will keep you strong all winter long! Mix a delicious oxymel with common herbs and spices that you can recreate in your own kitchen.

Nervous System
Learn how herbalism is an extremely unique system to address nervous system health. Most of us deal with some level of stress or anxiety on a daily basis. Stress can be held in different parts of the body including the head, jaw, neck, shoulders, heart, stomach or pelvis. You may feel it during work hours, social activities or when you can’t sleep at night. Together we'll make a herbal tincture that you can take wherever you need it!

Reproductive System & Endocrine System
Slightly more complex body systems, you’ll have learned a foundation from classes 1-3 (gut, immune and nervous system health), which all influence the reproductive and endocrine systems. Review the often-overlooked tissue states of hormonal and reproductive imbalances. Assess whether you lean more hot or cold, dry or moist and how these tissue states manifest in the reproductive and endocrine systems. Go home with an herbal tea blend ready to support you on the worst of days!

Bio: As both an herbalist and a landscape-permaculture designer, Natalie is always observing the conditions of both people and plants. She believes humans are a microcosm of the macrocosm— what unfolds on the earth around us is reflected within our own bodies through the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Some of us tend toward cold+damp or cold+dry constitutions, while others run hot+damp or hot+dry. Based on these specific “human ecosystems” Natalie recommends plants that balance these qualities within ourselves. She teaches people how to assess their own inner landscapes and connect with plant allies that support their unique constitution. While this concept may feel new in modern times, it’s rooted in ancient healing systems found across Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Western Vitalist Tradition, and beyond. By tapping into this earthy ancient wisdom, Natalie finds that clients can live in deeper balance and greater harmony with both themselves and the natural world. Through Alma Landscape and Permaculture Design, Natalie also helps people co-create the edible, medicinal, and healing gardens of their dreams. https://www.almapermaculture.com/
