RIDING THE DRAGON'S TAIL:
Surfing the Pisces-Virgo Eclipse Axis
A proverbial “Celestial Dragon” symbolizes the path of the Lunar Nodes, those astrologically essential junctures where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Sun’s path (the ecliptic plane). This Dragon was believed to churn the ocean of time and karma as he undulated backwards through the Zodiac in 18.6-year cycles. He currently stretches himself across the Sun’s path (ecliptic) with his greedy head in Pisces and his churning tail in Virgo.
The quintessential sign of physical health maintenance is Virgo. Conversely, the sign of spiritual and psychic health maintenance is Pisces! These eclipses nag us to get ourselves together on both levels. Eclipses will always occur near these Lunar Nodes, and in some months, we get two: one Solar and one Lunar.
I refer to the unpredictable two-week period between any two paired eclipses as “between the waves.” Let’s learn about the potential medical sensitivities of these events and how our herbal allies might help us to surf these tides better. Serious Astrology scholars can check out our Lunar Nodes and Eclipses course.
To interpret eclipses, medical astrologers first need to identify the event’s zodiac sign and axis. September features two eclipses across the Pisces-Virgo axis!
The Pisces Eclipse
A total lunar eclipse first occurs at the Dragon’s Head (North Lunar Node) in Pisces on September 7, at 2:09 pm EST. Saturn will have also moved backwards into the sign Pisces just two weeks prior, adding his cold, astringent influence to the cold, toxin-accumulative nature of the Dragon’s Head.
Cosmic Energy Enters at the Dragon's Head
We foresee a power “surge” in Pisces, the sign governing the lymphatic system, the internal ocean (extracellular matrix), the feet, and sleep. It seems plausible that healers can expect to observe more lymphatic stagnation, stiff feet, and extreme effects upon sleep, dreams, and the psyche! Vigilance and support are required for all those suffering from mental instability or depression.
Pisces always stands opposite her partner's sign, Virgo, profoundly influencing the mucus and lacteals of the Virgo-ruled intestine. Anima Mundi cosmic cupboard offers superb choices for a Virgo eclipse at the Dragon’s Tail! Here are some “eclipse surfing” suggestions for this month’s first eclipse of the Pisces-Virgo axis:
- Palo Santo Protection Myst creates an “auric armor” for times of excessive psychic vulnerability.
- Dream Tea: Because Pisces-Virgo eclipses require sleep support!
- Adaptogenic Tonic harmonizes these eclipses by supporting immunity, nerves, and stamina, while also enhancing stress tolerance.
- Cinnamon Bark assists in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.
- Dandelion Root tea benefits both Virgo and Pisces by assisting the liver and pancreas, while also serving as a respected lymphatic tissue cleanser.

Liver Vitality Greens: This is my top Season's Choice Formula for the support of Virgo's organs!
The Virgo Eclipse
Meanwhile, the Sun, our Season’s Master, awaits his solar eclipse at the Dragon’s Tail, or South Lunar Node, in Virgo, on September 21, at 3:54 pm EST.
Cosmic Energy exits at the Dragon’s Tail (S. Node). This eclipse continues a trend that has been in place for approximately one year, indicating possible functional issues with one or more intestinal organs and our immune response.
Virgo has both whole and/or shared governance over the sympathetic nervous system, upper intestines, liver, duodenum, pancreas, spleen, and immune response. The Dragon’s Tail is best known for furthering innate weakness, leaking, and/or inflammation. Hypothetically, this indicates a “power outage” potential for one or more intestinal organs (and also for our health and social assistance systems because these are also under the auspices of Virgo-Pisces). Both eclipses present possible blood sugar alerts because of their dominant co-influence over the insulin-producing pancreas.
Personally, I’ve seen an increase in allergy, insomnia, indigestion, and hernia cases! Astrologically aware physicians might consider Virgo’s Eclipse at the Dragon’s Tail (S. Node) as their cosmic alert to tonify, rest, cleanse, and support the intestinal organs, as needed. The Dragon’s Tail’s action intensifies cleansing responses, so be sure to be under your physician’s guidance if attempting a liver, gall bladder, or colon cleanse at this time! This is an ideal time for fasting (with a doctor’s approval).
My book, Eclipses and You, provides extensive detail on health and personal influences for both North and South Node eclipses in all signs, and for any natal planets that might be in these signs. The first nodal polarity inclusive eclipse predicting calendar can be found at the bottom of this eclipse article on my personal blog.
