Social Soundscape - A Meditative Open Mic

Join us at the Brooklyn Apothecary on Thursday May 22nd at 7pm for a for a one of a kind immersive - collaborative sound bath with an invitation to be part of the music and exercise your creative power in this hybrid song-scaping experience. 

Iris will paint a hypnotic soundscape using live looping, colorful vocals, binaural beats and the sounds of nature. Participants will then be led in a brief guided meditation/inspiration prompt; and have the chance to add their expressions to the soundscape through live sampling and Ableton. This is an opportunity to create a collective “sound spell”- as a way of infusing our dreams and intentions into a meditative track. Iris will operate the equipment, and guide participants in recording a sample (this is simple!) and compose the track live combining all our sonic offerings. 

Song and music have long been used as a way of keeping and sharing stories and passing on tradition. The stories we tell and repeat themselves and become patterns that inform our consciousness, just as a catchy song gets stuck in your head. This is a social soundscape, where we get to create the story- like gathering around a cauldron to create a brew, we gather around the looper to create a sound meditation that includes the elements of our individual inspiration.

Iris is a New York based multifaceted artist, combining colorful vocals, production and live looping to create hypnotic, multi-dimensional sound scapes, ranging from mediations to beat centric dance music. Focusing on improvisation and what is alive in the moment, Iris has a diverse background in sound healing, mysticism and vocal liberation. She believes music is magic- a force of change + evolution, a tool to help us realize dreams into being. She thinks of her sets as entering into a spaceship, though she may be at the helm, everyone is a part of the music, and the journey is one we are on together.
